Guest Chef – SodaRush

Soda Jerk (n:) a person who serves and sells soft drinks and ice cream at a soda fountain.

If you’ve been following along on our Instagram page, then you’ve seen that we have teamed up with Boyd Harrington to create a unique concept of working behind the scenes in local shops. Our goal for the Guest Chef series is to connect better with the companies we love to support and get a feel for what they do for all of us consumers. We had a ton of fun at SodaRush learning how to make different drinks, fresh lemonade and interacting with the customers. Keep an eye out for more to come. 🙂

SodaRush is a family owned and operated Soda Shop. Originally from Kansas, Jim and Amber moved to the valley of the sun with their 4 children to open their own soda and cookie shop. They now have two locations in Mesa, and in Gilbert. SodaRush not only only serves their Signature Sips and Gourmet Cookies, they also serve Ice Cream Cones, Fresh Squeezed Lemonade and Coconut Limeade, and also Cotton Candy, Giant Soft Pretzels, and Fruit Puree Parfaits.

Happy Birthday To Us!!

Happy Birthday To Us!!

We can’t believe it, but it’s been 1 year since we started our blogging adventure! If you’ve had the chance to read our very first blog post, which was an introduction of who we are, then you already know a bit about us. To recap, we have been best friends for 11 years now. We met when our oldest children were in Kindergarten together. They are now Juniors in high school and still at the same school! The time has really flown by and we are grateful for every minute of our friendship and everything we have been able to experience together.

Over the years we have gotten together for lunch or coffee when the kids were at school. So, a year ago we decided to document all the places we visit by sharing with the world via Instagram, and voila – Sip So Good was born. At the end of last year, we expanded by creating our own blogging website, and look forward to adding to it regularly, in addition to what we post on social media. It’s a great way for us to expand more and be a bit more personable. It really has been a wonderful year going out and meeting so many inspiring people here in our community. From business owners, to fellow bloggers, to fun events, and more. We have made some amazing friends this past year and look forward to meeting many more.

One of our passions is to support local businesses in our community. We’ve had the pleasure of visiting so many new places and have thoroughly enjoyed trying so many new drinks and foods, some we didn’t even know existed! We can’t even begin to tell you how much we have appreciated all the support we have received as well.

As part of our 1-year anniversary of Sip So Good, we wanted to do something special for all of our awesome followers. We want everyone to experience all the incredible places we have been to or tried. So, we have partnered with many businesses right here in our community, to bring you all amazing discounts through our anniversary weekend. We want to give a HUGE genuine thank you and shout out to all of the businesses participating in our anniversary celebration.

Vienna Beef 125th Anniversary Celebration

Vienna Beef 125th Anniversary Celebration

On Saturday, February 3, we attended the 125th anniversary celebration of Vienna Beef’s Hot Dog Pop Up Party. The event was held at Helio Basin Brewing Co. in Phoenix, and was hosted by AZ Foodie. We had an amazing time visiting this brewery for the first time and being surrounded by great company. We hung out with old friends, and met some new friends as well. The atmosphere was very cozy and inviting for friends to sit together, chat, eat, drink, and enjoy each other’s company.

We tried a variety of dishes prepared by Executive Chef Tamara, which were all inspired by Vienna Beef. From the quesadilla with jalapeños, chicharrones, duckfat beans, polish sausage with cheddar, cashew rice, veggie burgoo, mini bagel dogs, hatch chile cream cheese, and much more. We also tried a blackberry wheat beer which was crisp and refreshing.

Aside from all the great food, there was also some entertaining live music. We thoroughly enjoyed listening to the guitar and saxophone, and the amazing singing. There was also liquor sampling from Pure Peru and the sample we tried was so delicious.

We had a blast playing the games that were set up outside on the patio. We challenged each other in corn hole, life size Connect Four and Jenga. We’ll say that neither of us lost any of the games. 😉 We had a great time and laughed so much.

We had the pleasure of meeting Katie Dennis who is the Director of Retail Marketing for Vienna Beef. She gave us some history about the evolution of Vienna beef and how it came to be in the Southwest! 🙂 We also got a fun goodie bag filled with all the ingredients necessary to make a genuine Chicago dog!

What is a Chicago-style hot dog? It’s an all-beef hot dog topped with yellow mustard, bright green sweet relish, chopped white onions, juicy tomato slices, a crisp dill pickle spear, sport peppers, and a dash of celery salt…all nestled into a steamed poppy seed bun.

Fun Facts about Vienna Beef: Born in 1893, they have become Chicago’s and the Midwest’s first choice hot dog. They are an independent, family owned company. They are more than just a hot dog company, they also sell soups, cheese sauce, pickles, and deli meats. Many of Chi town residents are now refugees of the Valley. Did you know the Valley is the second highest metropolitan area Chicagoans reside?

SodaRush

On January 18th, 2018 we attended Media Night with other bloggers and influencers at the brand new SodaRush in Gilbert. From sodas to cookies to ice-cream, we were able to sample everything on the menu and interact with other colleagues.

Jim and Amber (owners) are some of the nicest people you will meet. Right when you walk in you’re treated with sweet smells from their bakery and super friendly team members. The shop is colorful and inviting, and their branding is so eye catching. The décor in their shop is adorable and a great place to hand out with friends.

If you’re looking for a large variety of fancy fountain drinks and some of the most delicious, made from scratch daily, giant cookies you’ll ever eat (they’re award winning!!) this is the place to be!

P.S. They also feature Dole Whip occasionally (it’s always available on their soda truck!), so be sure to follow them on social media to see when it’s available. They also have cotton candy, pretzels, and feature seasonal fudge and cookies of the month.

E&K Favorites: The Miguel drink and the Sugar Smash cookie.

Happy New Year!

We hope the New Year is off to a great start for everyone! We are excited to see what this year brings for Sip So Good! Be sure to pop on over to Instagram (@_sipsogood_) if you haven’t had a chance yet to see what we’ve been up to lately! 😀 We have stayed happily busy this past month visiting some new businesses, attending events, meeting some new friends, and trying out some new SIPS and yummy food. Some of our most recent adventures are highlighted in our stories. Be sure to check them out!

Hello Everyone! An Introduction! :)

This is our first blog post and we would love to tell you a little about ourselves. We are Erika and Kaylyn and we’ve been friends for 11 years now! We met when our oldest kids were in Kindergarten together, and now they are Juniors in high school. It’s so crazy how quickly the time has gone, but we’ve become the bestest of friends over the years. We started out by getting together for coffee and lunch while our kids were at school, and at the beginning of last year we thought “if we’re going to get together so often to try out all these amazing places, we should document it and share it all on Instagram,” So, that’s what we decided to do and we have been active on Instagram for nearly a year now, sharing all our favorite SIP (and food!) locations we’ve come across. We thought focusing more on drinks was a unique concept and since we meet up for drinks more than food, Sip So Good was born. 🙂

If you love drinks and food as much as we do make sure to check out our page on Instagram @_sipsogood_. We are also on Facebook, and we are so excited to have started our very own blog where we can expand even more. We absolutely love what we are doing and we love getting out into the community and supporting local businesses. We have met so many amazing people in such a short time, including some pretty incredible business owners who we’ve gotten to know very well. We’ve even met fellow food bloggers too! Not only are we having a blast doing this fun social media blogging stuff, but we’ve made some great friends in the process! 🙂
